The Knaphillian

The True Voice of Knaphill

Welcome to Pub Crawl.....

Many of the pubs in Knaphill provide entertainment in the form of live bands, karaoke, discos, race nights etc. Most display their current events on blackboards outside their premises. Live Sky Premiership football is also shown. Look out for our new monthly Pub Crawl Survey updates for 2010. Here we will testing the beer quality, atmosphere and general standards of service at your local.

The Anchor

Recently bought by Merlin Inns, this former Gales, then Fuller's pub presents itself as a hub for the local community. The cosy and relaxed atmosphere though has been dampened by some recent price hikes that now makes this once popular pub probably the most expensive night out in the centre Knaphill.

The Crown

Sadly this pub is now in decline following its withdrawal of live music and stripper nights. Despite low prices and a number of other initiatives to attract custom, the Crown has to battle hard to combat its reputation from previous misdemeanors. Only its friendy staff now make it worth a visit.

The Garibaldi

Usual range of reasonably priced beers from the Punch Taverns list. The pub is now showing off its true potential and seems to be benefiting well from good strong management, which in turn benefits its regulars. This quaint little venue is also capable of holding some great live events.

The Hunters Lodge

If it's food you're looking for then this is the pub for you. Formally the Nags Head, this pub has changed ownership a few times since it's incarnation as The Hunters Lodge in the early 1990s.A good range of wines and beers and we are pleased to say that the service has greatly improved here over recent months.

The Robin Hood

This pub is on the border between Knaphill and Goldsworth Park. Just the busy Lockfield Drive separates the two communities. A bit off the beaten track for most Knaphillians but it can make a pleasant change, particularly in the summer months as it boasts a large beer garden and split level patio. Prices though, like the Anchor, are probably about the highest in Knaphill.

The Royal Oak

Definitely Knaphill's most relaxed drinking place. At the foot of Anchor Hill this picturesque little building is steeped in history and is Knaphill's oldest public house. Recently refurbished - this friendly little establishment also boasts an excellent Thai food menu. Definitely a local's pub with regular clientele and very friendly staff.

The Surrey

Close to the border with St Johns, this pub is ideal if you are a typical 2.4 family. Good menu  including a children's selection and ample playing areas both indoors and out. A sizeable parking area also adds to the experience. Hard to detect if this is a classic local's pub but the beer quality is reasonable and the staff although a little robotic were almost polite.

The Barley Mow

As the road name suggests, Barley Mow Lane used to have a pub at the junction with Chobham Road, Knaphill. The Barley Mow closed as a pub circa. 1929 and used to be home to the Blackman family. The building still stands as a residential dwelling and is reputedly still haunted by the ghost of a gentleman who was murdered there when it was still a  drinking establishment.
