KNAPHILL is gearing up for a high-voltage week of music that kicks off on Saturday with a trio of gigs.
The Knaphill Village Music Festival will see the area’s best amateur acts entertaining the crowds throughout the week.
The music will get under way on Saturday when covers band Six Mile Away appears at The Anchor pub in the High Street.
Meanwhile Flying Visit will take on the Knaphill Working Men’s Club in Highclere Road and Vic Gilder will pay tribute to the Rat Pack at The Crown in the High Street.
Festival organiser Mal Foster said: “It’s going to be a good week and will give local bands a platform to perform on.
“Basically the infrastructure is already there. There were lots of events going on but the idea was to collate them altogether.”
Following on from Saturday’s performances will be mod rock covers extraordinaires High Vibe, who will be taking over The Crown on Sunday.
On Tuesday teen rockers Aspex will be playing at The Crown and the venue will play host to Monkey Militia and Egotrick on Thursday. On Friday blues five-piece Rupchured Rabbit will also take to the stage at The Crown.
Dave Mills is the drummer with the strangely-spelt band. He said: “I would say we’re an eclectic mix of blues and rock and roll. We’re a bit more individual than a lot of bands.
“We are not a covers band and we’re not a tribute band. We write a lot of our own rockabilly and blues stuff.”
The final night of the festival will see covers blues and rock specialists The Casinos playing at The Anchor while Chips plays at Knaphill Working Men’s Club.
