Saturday 20th

  • Despite a bit of a delay on the first Saturday due to what turned out to be the inconvenience of the Rugby World Cup -  the village has been rocking. With three gigs featuring, Six Miles Away, Vic Gilder and Flying Visit on Saturday, the stage had been set for a great week ahead.

Sunday 21st

  • On Sunday High Vibe played The Crown in an excellent atmosphere created by the locals and a group of the band's own fans.  Their presence at the festival was a timely indicator of the great music that was still yet to come.

Tuesday 23rd

  • On Tuesday we had a great night of mesmerising rock with the acclaimed teen band Aspex playing The Crown. The band's mature stage presence was a privilege to watch and their version of Pink Floyd's Another Brick In The Wall was absolutely brilliant. They almost certainly have a great future ahead of them if they they get the support and recognition they deserve.

Thursday 25th

  • Thursday at The Crown saw two bands - Monkey Militia and Egotrick take the stage on a memorable night of alternative music. Both bands were playing some great original stuff in front of another bumper crowd. This was the night that confirmed the festival so far really had been a great success.

Friday 26th

  • Another excellent gig was provided by Ruptured Rabbit at The Crown on Friday with a very accomplished performance in front of an appreciating crowd.  Some excellent sax playing was the icing on the cake  that prompted a number of rapturous encores.

Saturday 27th

  • Saturday 27th saw trio The Casinos at The Anchor in another tight performance which had the crowd transfixed throughout the evening. The band is is well respected on the local music circuit so it was ftting thet they should close a marvellous week of music.  David Phelps'  Chips played a packed Knaphill Working Men's Club and entertained the Haloween crowd who came to the event in fancy dress sealing another great night in Knaphill.

I would just like to say a big thank you to all those who gave their support during the Knaphill Village Music Festival. The event was a great success and we witnessed some superb performances. In particular I would like to thank Pete Carver manager of Aspex and Chris Pilott of High Vibe for their added support throughout the week. Knaphill has seen and heard the cream of local rock music and Aspex certainly have a great future in front of them. Monkey Militia too, were equally impressive and I wish them luck with their new CD -  In the Kitchen, On the Table, In the Sink. Thanks also to the band members of Egotrick, Six Miles Away, Ruptured Rabbit, The Casinos, Chips and Flying Visit and of course Vic Gilder who all contributed to making it a great week. Will I do it next year? - Well the answer is a definite yes! - Of course things will be done differently, but this first festival has set a great bench mark to work from. If you are a local band and would like to be considered for next year's festival - please email us with your contact details at: knaphillvillage@aol.com

Village Gears Up for Music Festival

KNAPHILL is gearing up for a high-voltage week of music that kicks off on Saturday with a trio of gigs.

The Knaphill Village Music Festival will see the area’s best amateur acts entertaining the crowds throughout the week.

The music will get under way on Saturday when covers band Six Mile Away appears at The Anchor pub in the High Street.

Meanwhile Flying Visit will take on the Knaphill Working Men’s Club in Highclere Road and Vic Gilder will pay tribute to the Rat Pack at The Crown in the High Street.

Festival organiser Mal Foster said: “It’s going to be a good week and will give local bands a platform to perform on.

“Basically the infrastructure is already there. There were lots of events going on but the idea was to collate them altogether.”

Following on from Saturday’s performances will be mod rock covers extraordinaires High Vibe, who will be taking over The Crown on Sunday.

On Tuesday teen rockers Aspex will be playing at The Crown and the venue will play host to Monkey Militia and Egotrick on Thursday. On Friday blues five-piece Rupchured Rabbit will also take to the stage at The Crown.

Dave Mills is the drummer with the strangely-spelt band.  He said: “I would say we’re an eclectic mix of blues and rock and roll. We’re a bit more individual than a lot of bands.

“We are not a covers band and we’re not a tribute band. We write a lot of our own rockabilly and blues stuff.”

The final night of the festival will see covers blues and rock specialists The Casinos playing at The Anchor while Chips plays at Knaphill  Working Men’s Club.
