The Knaphillian

Knaphill's Hidden Railway

Located in eight acres of idyllic woodland lies the 'hidden railway' of Knaphill. The Barrs Lane based Mizens Miniature Railway attracts many visitors to its mile of track from each Easter and most Sundays throughout the summer. Mizens is not so much a miniature railway but a railway in miniature. Their trains and track are 7 1/4 gauge & 1/8 scale. Everything else though is full size. The railway moved to Barrs Lane in Knaphill in 2000, eventually opening in 2002. The people behind Mizens are keen to offer something very special for its visitors. Everything is still very much a 'work in progress' which really does keep each visit interesting.

Angel with a dirty face: Alice takes to the controls on Visiting Locos Day at Mizens Railway, Knaphill

The whole experience at Mizens is enhanced by the atmospheric everyday railway scenes and boasts a number of authentic railway style buildings. There is also an old Class 423 'Southern Railway' Slam Door EMU (Electric Multiple Unit) coach on the site that now stands in its own length of full size track. As well as its popular annual events such as the Village Show and Oktoberfest, Mizens runs trains every Sunday from the end of April to the end of September. A GUARANTEED great day out for all the family!

Class A 482T No.196 steam locomotive

Mizens take delivery of their new Class A 482T Steam Locomotive from South Africa on 12 May 2011

Mizens Miniature Railway’s Pride and Joy: At 7pm on Thursday 12 May 2011, Mizen’s Miniature Railway in Knaphill took delivery of a Class A 482T No.196 steam locomotive from South Africa Railways. The engine was one of 100 built at Glasgow in 1898/90 by Dubs & Co in Scotland prior to being shipped abroad, however, with the threat of it being broken up, the loco was brought back to British shores and at the end of an eventful evening now sits proudly at the entrance of Knaphill’s favourite attraction. For more information on the locomotive CLICK HERE
