2007/2008 Season - A Great Achievement

In a season where near neighbours Aldershot Town F.C. have deservedly forced themselves back into the Football League after going bust in March 1992 and with their fellow Conference club Woking F.C. once again seriously under-achieving, it's great to see our own local football team Knaphill F.C. clinch seventh place in the Combined Counties League Division One in their debut season at senior level.

During the course of the last few months, its obvious that its the efforts of those behind the scenes at Knaphill F.C. and their players who should take great credit for their achievements throughout the 2007/08 season. They have provided a fine example to us all!

'The Knappers' concluded their season with a 1-1 home draw against Tongham on Tuesday 13 May. The gate was just under the one hundred mark and takes the aggregate attendance for first team home games to over one thousand, not bad for their first season in senior football!  - More >>>

Knaphill Bowling Club

The Knaphill Bowling Club has been around for almost 80 years and, for much of that time, was looked after by Woking Council. However, about 15 years ago the members decided to take over responsibility for the bowling green and built themselves an impressive clubhouse. This complemented the green, which is recognised as one of the best in West Surrey. We currently have around 100 members but are currently looking to recruit a few more.

There’s a common misconception that bowls is only a game for the retired. While we have our share of retired members (after all, they’ve got some time to spare), we also have a number who work as well as quite a few junior members under the age of 18. Bowls really is a game for all ages (have you seen it on TV recently?), and can be played either socially or competitively. For many married couples it is a game they can play together.

Knaphill Bowls Club play at the Sussex Road Recreation Ground and has a full programme of friendly and league games, (also County and National competitions), and will be happy to welcome new members. It really doesn’t matter if you haven’t played before – we can offer advice and help to get you started and instruction in how to play the game itself. But, be warned – it might just become an obsession!

If you’d like to find out if bowls is for you, give us a call. You can phone Norman on (01483) 830040 or Alan on (01483) 480262 to discuss what is involved, and perhaps to find a whole new outdoor interest.

Winston Churchill School - Sports College

Did you know that the sports facilities at the School that also serves the Knaphill Community are available for community use outside educational hours?

Since its official opening in September 2000 by Trevor Brooking, the Winston Churchill School Sports Centre has been providing the local community with access to a number of sports facilities and sporting opportunities.

Working in tandem with the Winston Churchill School Sports College, the Sports Centre seeks to encourage as many people as possible to get involved in some form of physical activity by providing access to a range of sports facilities, courses and events.

With the assistance of a substantial National Lottery grant (distributed by Sport England) the Centre was able to refurbish existing facilities and create exciting new ones (Including the Fitness Suite & Astroturf Pitch).

All are welcome to use the Sports Centre – Whether it be hiring a Tennis Court on a one-off occasion, block-booking the Astroturf pitch for regular football club training, attending a weekly Aerobics session OR using the Fitness Suite…
