With such a large turn out for the Remembrance Day Service at the old library site, in High Street, Knaphill on Friday 11 November, there are have been calls by local residents for a permanent memorial at the spot. Although plans have already been submitted for shops and flats to be built, some people believe that it is not too late to consider incorporating a cenotaph or small memorial garden nearby as part of the terms of any further planning application put forward to Woking Borough Council's Planning Dept. Please also visit our Facebook page fo more on this as support starts to gather for a memorial http/www.facebook.com/pages/The-Knaphillian/159175524174760?sk=wall

Perhaps a Knaphill cenotaph should be erected to mourn the passing of the high street - it should take pride of place outaide the new Sainsbury's Local when it eventually opens, which despite all the opposition, is going to happen. Only a matter of time.

I like this idea but I don't think it will ever get off the ground.

I guess that any choice of position for a memorial would have to consider the possibly quite large numbers which could gather during any observance.....I heard that when the remembrance service was held at the Old library site last year, there was not enough room to accomodate the large number attending.......

The site at the Vyne would be an excellent location. Plenty of parking too!
