Has there ever been a discussion about a crossing on Anchor Hill, so that everyone from parents with young kids, dog walkers and people popping to the shops, can cross safely.

Anchor Hill is a fast and dangerous road, i'm surprised people haven't been hit in the 5 years that i've lived here.

Blind bend at the bottom of the hill and sharp turning in and out of Barnby Rd, boy racers 'bombing' it down the hill, large larges, buses, and a thousands of cars - surely something should be done to slow the road down seeing as there is a play park on the other side that is consistently in use.

Does anyone else have concerns, and if so surely it should be pushed in meetings before someone does loose their life on the road.

That whole stretch is a 30mph zone so until every single road user recognises that fact little will change I'm afraid. It is the same in every town and village across the land. It is my experience that many (not all !) motorcyclists seem to think that speed limits do not apply to them.

If you combine road users who keep to the limit with pedestrians who observe everything that they were told when they were in The Tufty Club (as it was when I was a lad) then you would go some way to achieving road safety Utopia.

There are proposals afoot for the government to introduce a reduction of the speed limit in built up areas from 30mph to 20mph which, if instigated, will generate millions in revenue because, well . . . . next time you drive through the High Street and down Anchor Hill, do it at 20mph and see what sort of reaction that you get from other road users !

We've got a way without one down here all these years but methinks it won't be long before there is an accident if things carry on the way they are. The call for a crossing is very just and should be treated with respect!!

Does the footpath cutting through from Nursery Road to the main road still exist ? I have not been along there on foot for years. If so I would suggest that where it meets the pavement on Anchor Hill might be the most logical place for a crossing to be considered.

Yes, drivers do speed up and down Anchor Hill, but also pedestrians need to realise a road is for cars and other vehicles, not for them to jay walk across as they see fit and then wonder why they risk getting hit by any car, not just one going faster than the limit that applies to that stretch of road.  Putting in a pedestrian crossing won't slow the traffic down - in fact, you may end up with people putting their foot down even more to avoid the red light.  Also, given the layout of the road around the shops halfway down, it would seem unlikely that there is any suitable place to put a pedestrian crossing.

The fact that there have been nobody killed or seriously injured is because people are seemingly using their common sense and only crossing when safe to do so which seems amazing given that I hardly ever hear about the green cross code anymore.
