Most, if not all, libraries I've seen have been identified by where they are. Except Knaphill's. It is simply "The Library". Why?

I mentioned this to Mal at the KRA event last night, and we agreed that there is a somewhat twee fashion for calling such places "the" School or "the" Centre etc..... and also remember the library concerned also serves the surrounding villages such as Bisley..... it is however, generally called "Knaphill Library" on official websites, rather than "the Library at Knaphill" ! But this having been said, it remains tempting to suspect that the old "Knaphill" title dropping tendency has prevailed..... who Knows perhaps there were those who would have liked to have called it Brookwood Library !

By the way, why was there no Knaphillian Website stand at the KRA event? , seems a shame to have missed such an opportunity to advertise the site, as it was a well supported event .....

Simple answer is - we were not invited. I am a fully paid up member of the KRA and I was briefly vice chairman of the association until I resigned in June 2007 for personal reasons. I think the KRA's secretary believes that there is a conflict of interests between The Knaphillian and the KRA site. This is probably the reason why there is no recipricol link from their website to this one - after all, it only takes a matter of seconds to add a link!!
As you would have seen, we are keen to help promote any of the KRA's events and its secretary is aware that we will be more than happy to continue doing this in the future.
The Knaphillian has been a pivotol part of the community for over three years now, albeit on line. Our membership is growing and we have averaged over 12,000 hits a year since our conception in which time we have done our own bit to serve our village as well as helping promote numerous KRA events through our Calendar facility and with news items on our Home page.
Maybe if the KRA invite us along to The Vyne next year, we can provide an interactive stand and enhance our profile in the village even further. The ball is in their court !!!!

It seems a shame that the various groups in our village cannot work together a little more, and that we have to be so "tribal" , especially where we are faced with a common threat ....... Excuse me for bringing up the "Old" library on this thread, but I have just noticed Olly Wells has posted on his blog archive.....to the effect that development compensation moneys could have been "saved up" to purchase the site..... and that, according to Olly, the SCC are retaining too much...... I will try to post a comment .........link below....

It is a shame, however, we can't answer for the egotistical deficiencies of others !!

At the beginning of this last civic year ,I proposed in an Overview ans Scrutiny meeting that it be considered that monies settled as a part of large developments be retained by the ward where the development is being sited. This way communities can benefit from the development. I am still awaitong this proposal to be considered and c arried forward. Perhaps I need a blog site and then I can post my efforts!!!

Greetings Melanie.... I am sure it would be quite in order to report on your efforts here on this site, under a suitable topic or new thread, I am sure the admin. would keep the commenting in order ...... things tend to stay reasonable and constructive if party and national politics are avoided ! If you would like a blog, I have found the google one pretty good at:
There are also those that work with your party network as you probably know ....... Simon
