I see that the pub is supposed to be re-opening on 7th Feb... on a Monday? seems like a strange day to open to me!
In a prevoius article/topic you mentioned that you'd tried to contact Enterprise Inns or this Oak Taverns that are rumoured to be taking over The Crown. have you received a response from them? Did your information on the opening day come from them? To me I think it is a little remiss of the brewery/landlord/tenant not to get in touch with the most prominent website for the village to a) keep the villagers informed of what's going on and b) to introduce themselves to get all those that moaned and complained about the pub on their side from the beginning...just my opinion!
Personally I can't wait for the pub to re-open. The Anchor is way too pricey for my purse and the Working Men's Club...well that's just god's waiting room at the best of times! I just hope they don't over-inflate the prices like the Anchor have done which will scare people away before they've had chance to get going!

Good Evening, I have been involved with this issue since last summer when residents approached me for assistance to have Mr.O'Brien, the previous landlord of the Crown be brought to account for his unacceptable behaviour. We were succesful in having his license revoked and I have worked with Enterprise Inns and those residents to deliver the best possible solution to the problem that was in place when Mr.O'Brien was running (!) the pub. This relationship is ongoing. I was assured by Enterprise Inns recently that I would be kept informed of the date of re-opening and as of yet I haven't been formally given such a date. I am happy to meet any resident in The Crown when it re-opens and introduce them to the new management and have any concerns answered.
Hope that helps....:)

This is good news indeed and I, for one, cannot wait!
Let's just hope that the beer prices are not as inflated as the Anchor or they could find themselves an empty pub after the initial influx of *nosey* customers!!

This is true but personally I'd prefer that to a block of flats which is the way it seemed to be going at first.

Melanie, I've heard rumours around the village that the Crown will be over 25's only. Do you know if this is true? Is it a council stipulation or just at management discretion?
Doesn't matter to me personally as I'm a "tad" over that but do have a couple of friends just under.
Thanks | |

Evening, I am not aware of that ruling. It certainly wasn't a stipulation when the licence was approved by the Licensing Committee of WBC.
I will contact Enterprise Inns for clarification and get back to you..
Best wishes

OK! Took a trip in to the Crown on Saturday. Has been decorated very nicely and tasteful. No pool table, no darts, no jukebox and beer prices the same as the Anchor!!
All that said, the couple running it are extremely nice and welcoming and I wish them all the luck in the future!

Local dignitaries gathered at The Crown on Thursday 10 Feb to recognise all the hard work put into the premsies to make it more pallatable to local residents. Whilst its sordid past was discussed it was also great to hear how the brewery, its new managers, councillors and members of the Knaphill public believe that the pub can be a great asset to the village in the future – rather than the dark den of iniquity we all had to endure before. It was a pleasant evening and underlined a change in Enterprise Inns’ strategy in local pub management and its place in the local community. - Mal

I visited The Crown last week and would highly recommend it. It was a little quiet as they are trying to attract 'a new crowd' and I would suggest that all those that took the time to petition take the time to visit now. Whilst the menu is not extensive (we were reassured that more items would be added) the food was delicious. I understand they are now doing Sunday lunch and we will be visiting soon. It seems to be a great place for coffee, food or just a drink and for those who are unhappy about the lack of darts and a pool table I would suggest bringing lots of friends and just enjoying a good chat. Also, someone mentioned that the prices aren't cheaper than the Anchor and I think this is reasonable as cheap booze is probably not going to attract the right clientele. I would suggest people give it a go or the one really nice place to eat and drink in Knaphill will quickly disappear.

Absolutely agreed! We went Saturday night and it was busy enough, but could probably do with a few more regular customers. The food was fabulous and massive and the couple running the place were friendly and helpful. The menu is a little small and they need puddings- but one thing at a time! There are no pool tables or dart boards etc, because it is not that sort of pub- the Knaphill club next door has all these things, if that's what you are looking for. GIve it a try if you want a nice family meal or a quiet drink with friends- if we don't use it we'll loose it and it'll become the sort of place it used to be and most people hated!
