Recently I stumbled across (via Google) a very comprehensive weather station based in Knaphill (Alexandra Gardens I believe) providing a live data stream to the national weather grid. The data can be seen graphically on the guy's personal website: There's wind speed/direction, temperature, cloud-base, solar, rainfall, humidity and pressure. Everything could want really apart from depth of snow. He recently added a webcam to the site although the view is not spectacular.
Anyway I thought it worth passing on this web-gem.

Cracking find.
My friend Paul, who used to live in Horsell (am I allowed to mention Horsell?), reckons that Woking has its own micro-climate.
Just put the recycling out and, if it helps, it's still cold. Doesn't feel as cold as last night but I wouldn't venture out in flip flops, shorts and a t-shirt just yet (unless you are from the t'grim north east in which case it's positively tropical).
There should be a competition for best snowman in Knaphill. I don't want to brag but mine is belting.

I own that weather site, thanks for the complements.
You're right about it being located in Alexandra Gardens - in fact the station is bolted to the gable end of the house and wirelessly transmits to a reciever which posts condtions to the web. Its been up and running for a few years - you can see an archive of weather conditions on Weather Underground. There's also a time-lapse video of each day.
The webcam is angled to show current weather conditions; works fine during the day but suffers too much light polution at night. I could point it lower, but the view isn't any more exciting :-)
Its interesting Paul recons there is a micro-climate - I'm thinking of getting some weather modelling software which takes the live feed (plus feeds from other stations around the SE) and the computes a forecast for the specific area. I'll post here if/when I get round to it - a Knaphill-specific forecast sounds good, but how accurate will it be?

...but can the software predict if the buses are running?

I've created a new weather site instead of having the weather data sitting on a page of my personal site; www.wokingweather.co.uk. This site is dedicated to the weather in Woking and Knaphill and contains a lot more information than the current page, e.g.
in addition to the existing animated view and webcam.
There is also a Twitter feed at http://twitter.com/wokingweather which posts current conditions at midnight, 4pm and 8pm.
The site is being built out slowly and I'd love feedback on how it can be improved, whether the twitter feed is usefull, updates too often or too infrequently. Feedback is accessible at the bottom of every page on the new site.

Greetings With reports of severe & adverse weather just around the corner, I would like to thank you for adding the Knaphill Weather Stream to your site. Congratulations (is it Kevin?) to them for getting it spot on 100% of the time and for taking the initiative, and well done The Knaphillian for seeing its potential and helping to promote this unique service.
