Can somebody please explain to me why the bollards on Redding Way from Broadway exist?   To me they are nothing more than an absolute nuisance blocking access to the main Knaphill village centre when travelling by car from Redding Way - I either have to go via Redding Way, Baghot Road (A322), and Broadway to get to the village or go the other way along Redding Way and Lower Guildford Road to get to the same place - each way is a journey of just under a mile, when all I really ought to be able to do is go straight from Redding Way onto the Broadway and hey presto, I'm in the village centre.  Blocking off Redding Way simply makes the people of Alexandra Gardens, Brookwood Manor, Percheron Drive and Strathconia Gardens cut off from being able to access the centre of the village quickly and easily.  If its a fear that it might become a rat run, then I thnk its poor argument, especially given the speed that people drive down Broadway - if traffic was diverted off the Broadway and diverted onto Redding Way it would certaintly make Broadway a much more pleasant road to live in without fear of cars speeding down the long straight stretch of road.

I have long been wondering the same thing.  It effectively divides the village in two.  The whole setup of the estate on the former hospital grounds is poor in terms of making a cohesive village.  Shame.  Perhaps if we ripped out the trees and build some more houses bewteen the broadway and redding way that would make you feel better :D

Why not?  Unfortunately these days, trees don't house people, not literally anyway.

The population of the planet is not going to suddenly suffocate by pulling out a few trees in Knaphill.  And if you're that worried about it, plant one in your garden and get your neighbour to plant one too.

Is it me or are there a lot of people with red hair living where the hospital used to be? Perhaps the bollards are there to keep them out of the village centre. I was having a coffee and ice cream in Valentinos last week when a red haired man came in. Needless to say, I left immediately.

I agree.. People are suppose to be made aware to drive safely through main villages etc etc and because there is no access here, people drive like maniacs.. Rather than slagging people off with red hair (which I have got my the way) maybe do something more constructive with this forum to do something about the bollards ie maybe the council can remove them if we make a big enough fuss - I think sticking together is better than slagging each other off like you guys seem to do above!!

Well, I contacted our locally County Councilor about the issue and reminded her that public opinion on the last consultatation indicated that people wanted them left down, and in her respnse was that for "cogent reasons" (which she did not state) the Local Committee (whoever they are) said that it was not possible to leave the bollards down.  So why did the County Council have a consultation in the first place?  Just to waste our money when the decision had already been made?  Whole thing is a farce in my opinion.  If people of Knaphill want this bollards removed and that is the majority view, then the County Council should fix whatever needs fixing to enable the bollards to be taken away..  We pay our money to the County Council like all other Surrey council tax payers, so why aren't we having these issues resolved that suit everybody.
