The Knaphillian

As a major retailer in the area, the supermarket giant refuses to share its identity with Knaphill - we all know its not in Brookwood, but why do they think they are?

I contacted the customer services for Sainsbury's a while back to ask if they'd change the name - it was 'put forward' some someone allegedly. It's named after the nearest train station... I also wrote to the store manager (Peter Smith) and got no reply. REALLY ticks me off every time I'm in there!

Maybe we should get a petition going and then "maybe" the store manager might have the decency to even reply to your letter!

The Sainsbury website gives the address as being in Knaphill.

Good. A few months ago it didn't. Well done Knaphillian - keep the campaign going. I'm still looking forward to the day when I'm standing in queue and person on the tanoy says "Thank you for shopping at Sainsburys, Knaphill'

Once again the local press (Get Surrey website this time) erronously report Sainsburys as being in Brookwood in their British Legion article. When are these 'reporters' going to start getting their facts righ?

I also got in touch with Olly Wells about this - he actually went to meet Peter Smith who says the store is actually named after the Brookwood Hospital that used to be on the site. Once again, zero inclination to change reference to Knaphill.

Sainsbury's aren't alone on retailers not knowing where their stores are. M&S and Tesco stated to be at Meadows in Camberley, Surrey is really in Sandhurst, Berkshire. If they used the maxim that they both named the stores after the nearest train station that they should be saying those two stores are in Blackwater, Hampshire!!

It's not just retailers who have this problem. On Saturday morning I bought some strong lager from the off-license. On Saturday night I drank it all whilst watching the X Factor and on Sunday morning I didn't have a clue where I was.

Just an obersvation, last week the Woking Review or News & Mail whatever it is quite rightly reported something that was going on at Homebase, Knaphill. Why does the same papers keep describing Sainsburys as being in Brookwood when its next door to Homebase? .... the mind boggles.
